Making wine
Master winemaker
|
At Château de Pommard, Philippe Charlopin, master winemaker, is responsible for the entire process of preparing and maturing the wine. Philippe is recognised well beyond the boundaries of Bourgogne as a craftsman and an artist and is the disciple of Henry Jayer, the "winemakers' Pope". He is the spiritual heir of the Benedictine, Cistercian and Clunisian monk-winemakers, whose principles he applies in this work. The man is devoted to the earth, to vines and traditions, and knows how to get the best out of them. He is the alchemist of the terroir, the jeweller of Clos de Pommard. His skill leads to excellence and the discovery and revelation of the secrets and tastes of the earth as they are expressed in wine. |
