From Concierge to Logistics, finding your dream job at the Château

Julie has been with us at the Château for the past two years. Professionally dedicated and passionate, she recently moved from the Concierge team to the Logistics team to feed her curiosity for new experiences.

Before you joined us at Château de Pommard, where did your career take you?

Before joining Château de Pommard, I spent eighteen months in luxury hospitality at the Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona and the Movenpick in Geneva.

How long have you been at Château de Pommard and how did you end up working with the logistics team?

I first joined as Concierge Manager in 2019. I spent almost a year in this role and worked directly with the guests. My main goal was to provide them with the best possible experience at the Château and ensure that they had all the information they needed to enjoy their Burgundy trip. In 2020, the Château had to close its doors to visitors and I was given the opportunity to support the logistics team. It was a whole new adventure for me! Very soon thereafter, I realized I was very passionate about the new role so I decided to stay on the logistics team even after the château reopened.

What does a typical day look like? How is your role unique?

My main task is processing wine shipments, from the moment the client places the order until delivery at the door. We ship our wines internationally, so we need to be really organized! Each country we ship to has different customs forms and paperwork. We stay on top of each order and make sure each one is properly delivered and arrives on time. The quality of the shipping service has to align with the quality of our wines. We are always looking to optimize the process both internally and with new partners and carriers who share our values.

What are the biggest differences between the two roles you've had at the Château?

The biggest thing these roles have in common is the ultimate goal: client satisfaction. Otherwise, they're completely different! Working in the Logistics Team requires a bit more communication and organization, as it's bigger than the Concierge Team and works with all the other departments at Château de Pommard (sales, marketing, finance, etc.).

What are your greatest challenges?

Our biggest challenge is finding shipping systems that align with the Château's values and vision. We need to make sure we're using high-quality, eco-friendly packaging and that all our shippers can properly store the wines in transit. We're constantly improving and looking for new ways to make all of this happen.

Château de Pommard is undergoing a major transformation. How does your team support this project?

We're just beginning to work on it together. Most of the strategic planning will begin in 2022 and it's a big project! No matter which team we work on, everyone will have to properly plan together to ensure its success. We've started to reorganize the warehouse to better optimize storage capacity over the next few months. We are working closely with a variety of internal teams as well to determine how best we can support this change in the future.

Which one of the Clos Marey-Monge plots is your favorite, and why?

My favorite plot is Micault. If you are a Burgundy Pinot Noir lover like me, you will be amazed by its generosity and complexity. It is a delicate and pleasant wine, with a beautiful ruby color and fruity aromas.

Tell us what Micault 2019 tastes like.

Micault 2019 is very refreshing and elegant, with aromas of red fruit, rose, and peony. The tannins are very soft on the palate. This wine can be enjoyed today but it also has great ageing potential. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will evolve with time!
