In June 2021, the esteemed The Drinks Business announced the results of its prestigious 2021 Global Pinot Noir Masters Awards. For the last eight years, these awards have recognized the most outstanding Pinot Noirs in the world.
The wines are judged blind by a panel of some of the highest calibre tasters around the world, including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, and senior buyers. The highest-scoring Pinot Noirs are awarded Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals.
We are delighted to announce the outstanding results of our wines along with the judges’ tasting notes:
Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2018: Gold Medal
Pale ruby.
Quite dark berry fruit, black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, ripe stem, and hint of apple VA.
Palate lovely, hint of va, touch of apple, and balsamic, but subtle, with dark cherry, kirsh berry fruit, touch of summer pudding, then masses of dry tannin, touch of ripe stem, wood, and cherry stone finish. Lovely, hard not to drink, dry and refreshing, structured, classic, layered pinot with dark fruit – rather than red berry. Persistent, light but powerful, Burgundian style.
Clos Marey-Monge 75 Rangs 2018: Gold Medal
Pale ruby.
Ripe but cool aromatics, tomato, touch of tomato stalk, apple, vanilla, cherry.
Palate, just touch of tomato leaf, light body, but lots of dry tannin, touch of vanilla, pepper, tomato and cherry fruit. Bright, refined, with dry finish, lots of tannin, then touch of apple bite, nice balance and persistent. Good. Classic structure.
Nuits-Saint-Georges 2018: Gold Medal
Pale ruby, touch brick red.
Open, some stewed cherry, dark berry, cedar wood, touch of va, apple and balsamic, ripe orange and cherry stone.
Palate lovely, quite Italian in structure and style, with cedar wood, touch of vanilla, red fleshy dark cherry then cherry stone sensation, masses of fine dry tannin, mouth-watering fresh finish, but not hard. Good. Lovely, sweet red fruit and dry tannin mix on palate. And well judged oak, just cedar and touch of vanilla. Lovely, lingering. Some development here. Very good, classic pinot with dark berry character, some sweet fruit, dry savoury edge.
