Our Stories


Clos Marey-Monge’s youngest vines breath the spirit of vitality into our vintages of Vivant Micault. Alongside the Les Paules and Émilie terroir, this plit provides the Vivant Micault wine with a soft touch, a love drunk punch of fruit and the meaty flesh of the final bottled wine. 


The spirit and personality of our founder, Vivant Micault is ingrained into every grain of this remarkable terroir.

Planted in 1987, across 126 rows, this plot is home to the youngest vines in the vineyard and shelters a deep soil rich in clay, bestowing its wine with elevated levels of juice and fruit. However, until 1968, much of the plot was actually an English style park and a filled pool with a bridge.

It can be discovered to the south-west of Clos Marey-Monge. It is located in a low altitude topographic position – the Simone plot sits pretty at the top.

Our sumptuous village wine, Vivant Micault, takes its name from our founder, the first guardian of the estate, and the first man to lay down life-long roots in Pommard. Vivant Micault is a wine imbued with his spirit, his style, his soul –  a wine that embodies his ambition to fall in love with life every day, to have joie de vivre, or as Pommard locals say, “vivre une vie” – live one life.

In 2016, possessed with the same spirit as Vivant, Château de Pommard has pulled up the vines of the four hectare Nadine plot, to breathe new life and energy into the Clos, and to reignite our commitment to the long term health and quality of the vines and the Pinot Noir grapes. At the Château we have a saying, “What would Vivant do?”. He would respect the legacy of the vines to ensure their longevity. So do we.

To honor the huge personality and legacy of Vivant Micault, in 2016 we renamed our Clos du Château de Pommard wine, a name that had existed since the Laplanche era of the 1930-2000s, Vivant Micault. Known for several years as the wine made from young vines, aged between 10 and 40 years, Vivant Micault is produced and vinified by winemaker Emmanuel Sala with the same love, care and affection as our acclaimed Clos Marey-Monge Monopole, but only with the vines from each plot planted since 1986. The wine, often revered as “very typical of Pommard”, rises above its station as a result of the signature blend of vine plots that are not used in the final blend of Clos Marey-Monge Monopole.

As our winemaker, Emmanuel Sala, can never predict which cuvée, or part of a cuvée, will pass the test to be part of the final blend of Clos Marey-Monge Monopole, the cuvées that are produced for Vivant Micault are, therefore, vinified with the same processes, and aged for as long, as they would be if they were to form part of the blend of Clos Marey-Monge.
